Description

This letter is a response from Commissioner of Immigration in San Francisco, California to the circular letter from the Acting Commissioner General of Immigration in Washington, DC regarding the issuing of passports to persons of the Chinese race. The Commissioner of Immigration in San Francisco stated that their office would thoroughly examine all papers on file regarding the subject of the circular letter and would report any passports acquired by fraud to the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization. The Commissioner also stated that the Immigration Service in San Francisco had a number of copies of applications for passports that were forwarded by the Bureau which had not been returned by the applicants. However, two years had passed since the issuance of said passports and the Commissioner of Immigration in San Francisco was asking the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization in Washington, DC whether they should return the applications to them or if they should wait until the arrival of the applicants from China and then transmit a report to them.
