  • Firefighter Gardner Kellogg moved to Seattle from Chicago and served with Seattle's volunteer fire fighters. Between 1884 and 1901, he served several times as Chief of the Seattle Fire Department. Kellogg was known for his insistence on strict fire prevention measures in Seattle's buildings. It was probably taken when Kellogg was named Chief of Seattle's first paid professional fire department in October 1889. less
