- Description
Betty Price, a 1985 Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame inductee, recalls her early interest in music and taking typing courses in high school that played into her career path. She explains how she became involved with art in Oklahoma's Capitol, lobbying for funding for the arts, and pushing legislation for establishing the Capitol Preservation Committee. Price talks about various works of art in the Capitol from murals to sculptures and about artists such as Mike Larsen, Kelly Haney, and Allan Houser. She also discusses her long career with the Oklahoma Arts Council and promoting public art as well as arts education in schools.
The Inductees of the Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame Oral History Project aims to preserve the voices and experiences of inductees to the Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame who serve as pioneers in their fields, made significant contributions to the state of Oklahoma, or have championed other women, women's issues, or served as public policy advocates for the issues important to women.
