Information Regarding the Brigantine Minerva to the Honorable David Leonard Barnes, U.S. District Court for Rhode Island
View Full Item
In this record, the attorney of the United States for the Rhode Island District, David Howell, asks that the Brigantine Minerva be seized and condemned given that the ship was used in the trafficking of slaves from Africa to other foreign countries within the previous two years, contrary to U.S. law. The judge allows this seizure and calls for a special District Court trial to settle the case.
