Five-cent temporary Confederate postage stamps

Issued by the Memphis postmaster, M. C. Gallaway, these five-cent stamps were printed in Memphis as an interim measure until the Confederate States of America began printing stamps. They were used for letters delivered up to 500 miles outside the city.
