Homemade boat the "ARK" built by Paul Satko, ca. 1940
This 40 foot boat was hauled from Virginia to Tacoma by the Satko family in hopes of making a voyage to Cook Inlet in Alaska. The Ark was launched in April, 1940, from the Point Defiance Dock, but ran aground in Seattle. It eventually made it to Ketchikan, Alaska in mid 1940.
