Jackson, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, has been a leader in the fight for American missile development to offset the growing Soviet missile threat. Redstone is the largest of the Army's missiles. It is designed to provide the ground commander with around-the-clock, all-weather capability for delivery of atomic warheads on strategic and tactical targets. This medium range missile stands abouth three stories high and has a diameter of six feet. It operates in the higher reaches of the atmosphere, carrying its own supply of oxygen fuel, which consists of liquid oxygen, alcohol and hydrogen peroxide.
