CPL Underwood's parent command is 2nd Maintenance Battalion, 2D Force Service Support Group (FSSG), but he is currently attached to the Norway Air-Landed Marine Expeditionary Brigade/Offload Preparation Party, (NALMEB/OPP), II Marine Expeditionary Force, Forward, (II MEF FWD). This item is being prepared for shipment to Estonia, for use in BALTIC CHALLENGE '97, a Partnership for Peace (PfP) exercise. The US Marine Corps has equipment stored in Norway, as part of the NALMEB Prepositioning Program. The NALMEB program contains equipment and 30 days of supplies to support a 13,000 person Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF). The Government of Norway is the on site "contractor", and provides storage, maintenance facilities and services, and security. This gear is stored in a series of 6 caves, located in the Trondheim region of central Norway.
