Quilt, 42 x 61 inches, containing patches of multicolored silk, velvet, and brocade. Heavily embroidered with animals and flowers. The center motif is a handpainted rose on maroon velvet. This type of quilt was popular in the late 19th century. Scraps of any shape or size are sewn onto a backing and embroidery stitches (mainly herringbone and feather stitch) are used to decorate the edges of the pieces. Patchwork Quilts 6-10 Mathematics
