  • Eugene Semple was born in Bogota, Colombia, on June 12, 1840, to James Semple (1798-1866). In 1864, Eugene Semple moved to Portland, Oregon, where he was editor of the Oregon Herald and practiced law, and the state printer for Oregon. In 1870, he married Ruth Lownsdale (1954-1883) and moved to Washington Territory. He was appointed Governor of Washington Territory in 1887.
