Notes in inventory: On Mount Tacoma. A bed on the rocks at Camp Muir. Altitude about 11,000 ft. Leland Longmire [illeg.]Camp Muir is near the 10,000 foot level on the southeast slope of Mt. Rainier near the summit at the west margin of the Cowlitz Glacier in a saddle beneath Cowlitz Cleaver. It was named by Major E. S. Ingraham in 1888 during an expedition for the famous explorer and naturalist John Muir who was present. PH Coll 291.066.
