He notes that the "regular ascent of the mountain is made from Paradise Park and there are camps located on the mountain where accommodations can be had for a reasonable amount, and where guides can be procured...Unless you are very familiar with volcanoes on which there are great glaciers, I would not advise you to attempt the ascent of Rainier without a guide. While the mountain is by no means difficult to climb there are a few dangerous points which require exceedingly great care.". less
