Burton James writes to his friend Hallie to report on the status of politics in Washington State following the Canwell Committee investigation of alleged unAmerican activity. James writes that Washington "is one mauling, brawling political battleground", and that "we had some success in getting rid of four of the stool pigeons and liars." However, he was now focused on ensuring that Albert Canwell was not reelected to the State Legislature. He also writes that the Seattle Repertory Playhouse was suffering as a result of the investigation. James expresses concern that the public will not forget this scandal and that the Playhouse may not survive. less
