Pier on Delaware River. Aluminum garage doors. Large steel beams. Wood plank deck.
Notes from back of mount: This photograph shows another city-owned facility-Pier 5 North-- at the foot of Arch St. in the heart of the Philadelphia Port along the Delaware River, where the division of Port Operations, City Department of Commerce, is planning to build a railroad apron track to facilitate the direct transfer of cargo between ships and rail cars. It is one of five Port improvement projects that the city is contemplating under its 1957 Capital Budget Program. The Loan Bill recently introduced before City Council's Finance Committee calls for $615,000 to be used toward financing these operations. In addition to the track apron, this facility would also be equipped with new rolling steel cargo doors to replace those which have outlived their service.
