A handwritten letter from 23-year-old Marine Lieutenant William Sharp Bush, stationed on the U.S. Brig Hornet at Annapolis, Maryland, to his friend Major Jabez Caldwell, near Easton, Talbot County, Maryland, dated June 5, 1810. Bush describes his resignation from the Marine Corps in New York and subsequent reinstatement with unchanged seniority following a visit to Washington, D.C. Bush also discusses his positive relationship with the men serving under him.
