A number of high-technology business firms in the fields of electronics, computers, and medical technology developed in the Champaign Urbana area because of the availability of highly skilled professionals and technical labor. Interstate Research Park was developed by brothers Newton H. Dodds and Donald C. Dodds, Jr. and was opened in 1963 on the east side of the Fisher Road northwest of Champaign.
