  • Description
  • Commercial halibut fishing in the northwest got its start in 1888 when the first railroad carload of fresh Pacific Ocean halibut left for markets in the east. The earliest northwestern halibut fishing boats were sailing schooners. This photo shows the early halibut schooner "Jennie F. Decker" towing a dory. The photo was probably taken near Seattle sometime between 1902 and 1916.
