The course is designed to train Air Force personnel in Air Mobility contingency operations. This includes setting up defensive positions in remote locations worldwide. The mission of the 421st Ground Combat Readiness Squadron (GCRS), Air Mobility Warfare Center, Fort Dix, is to formulate doctrine and develop tactics. The 421 GCRS standardizes training to enhance Air Mobility Command's ability to support National Command Authority taskings during war, crisis, and worldwide contingency operations. Attached to the helmet, upper body and M-16A2 rifle is the Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) gear to simulate combat. When hit by a laser emiter a loud tone sounds off that signifies the soldier is wounded or dead.
