As the organization's second president, she was a very influential temperance reformer and proponent of women's suffrage.Matilda Carse was a businesswoman who became president of the Central Chicago WCTU in 1878. In this role, she sponsored reform activities to improve conditions for the working class in Chicago, was instrumental in developing the successful Woman's Temperance Publishing Association, and took on the creation of the Temperance Temple as her personal project. less
