This photograph shows 1984 Olympic Gold Medalists Jeff Blatnick (left; class of 1979) and Tim Daggett (right). They are standing next to a giant birthday candle at the exhibition gymnastics show celebrating Springfield College’s 100th Anniversary on November 10, 1984. Behind them is the American flag, and at their feet are the words, "Happy Birthday." Art Linkletter was the master of ceremonies, and the event was held at the Springfield Civic Center (now called the MassMutual Center). Jeff Blatnick (July 26, 1957 – October 24, 2012) was an American super heavyweight Greco-Roman wrestler and sports commentator. He won NCAA Division II heavyweight wrestling championships in 1978 and 1979 and won the Olympic gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling in 1984 after battling back from cancer. Timothy P. (Tim) Daggett is an American gymnast from Springfield, Massachusetts and a 1984 Olympic gold medalist. He graduated from West Springfield High School and UCLA. In addition to the team gold medal, he earned an individual bronze medal on the pommel horse. The College celebrated its 100th anniversary with a multitude of events throughout the academic year, starting with a display booth at the Big E on September 12, 1984 and ending with a centennial film festival on June 2, 1985.
