  • On April 25, 1986, Gordon Hirabayashi married Susan Carnahan. Susan worked as a free-lance writer and photography, mainly in the documentary film genre with the National Film Board of Canada. She and Gordon met first in the early 1960s when they and their spouses arrived in Edmonton during a hiring boom at the University of Alberta. She and Gordon met first in the early 1960s when they and their spouses arrived in Edmonton during a hiring boom at the University of Alberta. More than two decades later, after each couple had divorced, Gordon and Susan met again at their local Quaker Meeting where Gordon had been a long-time member and Susan was just joining.
