This newspaper article titled "Laying of Cornerstone of New $450,000 Dormitory at "Y" College" shows a picture of the cornerstone being laid for International YMCA College's (now Springfield College) Alumni Hall, along with a description of the ceremony and was published on September 23, 1926 by the Springfield Republican. A copy of the article is in the Alumni Hall Records but the original copy is in Publications Int. Y.M.C.A. College (1926-1927). The article discusses Dr. Raymond P. Kaighn's speech, president of the Alumni Association and one of the eighteen students of Dr. Naismith's class to play the game of basketball, at the cornerstone ceremony. He thought of the building as a dream come true, and the importance of Springfield College Alumni having made it happen. Also, the article discusses the ceremony itself and how the opening took place at the gymnasium, followed by a scripture reading and leading to the cornerstone being laid. less
