Maurice Ross and Portland YMCA

This lantern slide shows two images: the Portland YMCA in Maine and a portrait of Maurice Ross, who graduated in 1894 from the International YMCA Training School, now known as Springfield College. During his last year at school, he worked as physical director at the Chicopee YMCA in Massachusetts. After graduation, he held the same position at the YMCA in Fitchburg, Massachusetts (1895-1898), and Portland, Maine (1899-1903). After his time in Portland, Ross left Association work. He died on July 4, 1949. The original YMCA in Portland was at the corner of High and Congress Streets, and it remained there until about 1980. Text on border reads, "Portland Ross.
