- Description
Mayor John Boyd Thatcher II purchased land for the site of the current airport in 1928 from the Watervliet Shakers, creating the first municipal airport. The Albany airport has changed and expanded many times since then, most recently in 1993 in a $184 million renovation project that resulted in a new name, Albany International Airport.
