In this memo from the War Department, an unidentified staff member provides a Summary of Information for Gordon Hirabayashi. They write, "It is reported that Gordon Kiyoshi Hirabayashi, who has gained notoriety throughout the states of the Pacific Coast because of having deliberately violated curfew and evacuation orders, has more recently refused a request from Seattle Draft Board No. 4 to fill out a questionnaire on the grounds that the form is aimed at citizens of Japanese ancestry particularly and therefore violates his rights as a citizen." The memo goes on to cite Gordon's own letters to the board that he wrote on February 12th of 1944. The memo concludes with a description of Gordon's current location, reports his engagement to Esther Schmoe, and describes his work with the American Friends Service Committee. less
