A handwritten letter from 24-year-old Marine Lieutenant William Sharp Bush in the Philadelphia Navy Yard, to his friend Major Jabez Caldwell, Talbot County, Maryland, dated March 5, 1811. Bush wrote this letter the day after he was promoted to the rank of first lieutenant in the Marines. Bush was assigned to the land-based recruiting services during this period and writes of his leisure time and social activities.
