  • Description
  • Khram, or damascene in English, is a design produced by inlaying gold or silver into steel. Having long been practiced by Thai artisans in Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin period, this kind of artwork is disappearing. Due to competition among guilds, Thai craftmanship were rarely recorded into written documents but informally passed on from artists to their apprentices. The author argues this is mainly why Thai damascene has died out.
