Photograph, b/w In 1926 the Chicago, North Shore and Milwaukee Railroad began to transport specially designed truck trailers on modified flat cars. This 'piggyback' service was adopted by the Chicago Great Western Railroad in 1936. Shown here is a truck on a trailer in the Chicago rail yards in 1936.
