Mather, Assistant to the Secretary of the Interior, writes to Curtis asking him to support the Park Service Bill. According to Mather, "if our plans for the economic development of the national parks and monuments are to be carried out, and if our scenic attractions are to be brought to the attention of the people and made tremendous economic resources, such as Canada has made of her Rockies, an organization of the type contemplated by this bill must be given the Interior Department." Mather encloses a copy of H.R. 15522, the bill to establish the National Park service along with a report on the bill drafted by Mr. Raker, from the Committee on the Public Lands. The report makes mention of considering turning the Mount Olympus National Monument into a national park and provides statistics for the growing popularity of national parks. less
