  • 306-308 W. Church St., Champaign. Boston architect Julius A. Schweinfurth designed the 1896 Burnham Athenaeum in the popular Beaux-Arts style, which he had studied in France. Albert C. Burnham gave the site and $35,000 to erect the new library. (It was then housed in City Hall.) He added a $10,000 endowment for library materials.
