Note accompanying object for 36a from this collection. Written on card: A clove knot tied by 2[nd] mate B [illeg] of the 2 mast 90 ton Schooner Ralph J. Long out from Nome, Alaska, Oct. 23, 1901. Arrived in Seattle Dec. 9, 1901. A part of rope which held boom and broke one night--5 minutes after Mrs. B and I left deck. We were sitting under boom. Written on verso: Lizzie B.
