Valley Stream State Park is one of the State Parks under the jurisdiction of the Long Island State Park Commission. Distance from New York City, 18 miles. This park may be reached by the Southern State Parkway and by the Merrick Road at Valley Stream. The northern area is developed for picnicking, having fireplaces, picnic tables and playground equipment. Woodland trails connect the northern and southern areas. The main attraction is fresh water swimming in Valley Stream Lake.
