    A.P. Duryee, president of the Glacier Peak Association, wrote Meany, president of the Mountaineers, to ask for assistance in preserving the Glacier Peak area in Snohomish County, Washington. The Association was in the process of organizing a series of trips to Glacier Peak to gain support to protect the area against timber interests and sent a prospectus of the trip along to the Mountaineers. According to Duryee, "The government has made arrangements to inspect this area this summer, and will send in a definite recommendation either for or against the setting aside of this timber, etc. The Forest Service has been cordial and sympathetic, and if we can do our part I feel sure that we will be able to accomplish our purpose this summer and fall. The inspectors have told us that one of the factors will be the use they see being made of this area for recreational purposes.
