Countess Estelle began doing drag in high school. She sang for a western band and performed regularly in USO shows in 1946 and 1947. The director of the show suggested that she go on stage in drag and book herself as a novelty act. Later in high school she began performing at amateur night at the Garden of Allah, though because she was still underage, her mother had to accompany her as a chaperone. Estelle continued to perform as a female impersonator as a hobby, including performances in various Northwest cabarets and USO shows. Estelle worked as a cook in Seattle and died in 1995. less
