In the Stands

MEDAL OF HONOR WINNER U.S. ARMY SERGEANT CHARLES A. MACGILLIVARY AND CONGRESSMAN JOHN F. KENNEDY AT FENWAY PARK, ca. 1945. Leslie Jones Collection, BPL Print Department.

John F. Kennedy’s grandfather, Mayor John Fitzgerald, was a member of the Royal Rooters and threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Fenway Park’s dedication in 1912. Kennedy is pictured here at the ballpark early in his political career.

Generations of passionate Red Sox fans have filled Fenway's stands night after night, season after season, cheering on their beloved team.

While the earliest fans at Fenway Park enjoyed a quick succession of World Series championships in 1912, 1915, 1916, and 1918, the legions of loyal supporters born after 1918 waited for nearly a lifetime until they were rewarded with championships in 2004 and 2007.
