Douglas County, Georgia, Sheriff Mac Claude Abercrombie, Jr., meets with participants in the Poor People's Campaign, Douglasville, Georgia, June 1968.

Several more complex forms of civil rights actions were undertaken during the movement’s peak in the 1960s.  These might involve combinations of multiple demonstrations, extensive travel, voter registration, educational programming, and other elements.  They required detailed advanced planning and careful attention to logistical aspects, and extended over a fairly long period of time.  Examples include the Freedom Rides, the SCOPE Project, and the Poor People’s Campaign.
