Chris Freeland
Director, Center for Biodiversity Informatics at the Missouri Botanical Garden; Technical Director, Biodiversity Heritage Library
Chris Freeland is the Director of the Center for Biodiversity Informatics at the Missouri Botanical Garden and the Technical Director of the Biodiversity Heritage Library. Mr. Freeland has an M.S. in Biological Sciences from Eastern Illinois University and has worked as a technologist in scientific organizations and digital libraries for more than 10 years. He has been a project manager for several large biodiversity informatics and digitization projects, including the development of the Tropicos botanical information system and the BHL.
Martin Kalfatovic
Associate Director, Smithsonian Institution Libraries
Current projects include work on metadata, standards, intellectual property issues. As the Deputy Director for the Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL), he assists with the global coordination of the BHL project working with BHL nodes in China, Brazil, Australia, the European Union, and Egypt. He is a frequent contributor of articles and reviews and the author of three books. He can be found on Twitter at @udcmrk and maintains a blog at UDC793.blogspot.com. He has an inordinate fondness for dodos.
