Written in brown ink on 16 unstitched folded leaves (30 unnumbered pages or 15 double-page spreads) of ruled laid paper watermarked with crown and grapes, and letters: W. Roumestant [?]. The leaves appear to have been taken from a ledger, and bear stenciled page numbers upside down at the lower corners. Additional pencil and black ink annotations throughout.
In 1772, the bulk of Louis-Antoine Crozat's collection of paintings was sold by his heirs to Catherine the Great of Russia, through the agency of Denis Diderot and the collector François Tronchin, and became the nucleus of the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.
